"Palestine and Israel,” [Fall 2025]
“Bayan is a wonderful TA. Whenever she shares her perspective, the nuances of the material become so much clearer, and it becomes much easier for me to wrap my head around everything.”
“Bayan was a wonderful TF, she is so intelligent and offers very refreshing frameworks to think about the history.”
“Bayan is an incredibly intelligent and sharp section leader. She provided a perspective that really helped to deepen Prof. Robson's lectures. I especially appreciated how she would connect themes in the course content from Palestine to other sites like Sudan. I learned so much from her, and she really pushed us to think about the human consequences of the history we learned.”
“Bayan was the best TF I've had in my time at Yale. Her background in the region and material is incredibly thorough, and she is outstanding at moderating detailed discussions on the most specific events or accounts from readings, to the grand abstractions of the region and its history. My learning in this class was first and foremost thanks to her approach and the nuance she welcomed in our discussions.”
“Wonderful TA! She really knew her stuff and would always be able to answer our questions and tie broader pictures of the history of the region together (as well as the modern day). Very well spoken.”
“Bayan was great in facilitating discussion and making the class an engaging space for all to learn. She helped steer discussions into interesting directions and enhanced the course overall significantly.”
“Bayan was a GREAT TA! She was super enthusiastic, knowledgable, engaging, kind, thoughtful, and made every single section a pleasure to attend.”
“Bayan was a wonderful TF! Her knowledge in the greater region offered broad opportunities for section discussions, and I seemed to take away something new every time. Bayan did a great job of moving the conversation forward and steering it in order to cover the topics discussed in readings and in lecture.”
“Bayan was obviously very interested and engaged with the course material, which made section discussions much more interesting. She is very knowledgable about the conflict.”
"Introduction to the Middle East," [Spring 2022]
"Bayan was great! She led the discussions in a really helpful style and was always understanding. The amount of knowledge she has on the region helped me to understand the complexities better."
"Very knowledgeable on the topic, always facilitated great conversations in section. Always understanding of circumstances that may arise for students."
"Bayan is incredibly knowledgeable and I believe I am better off for having had a section with her. Overall one of the best TFs Ive had at Yale."
"Bayan is a great TF. She was very knowledgeable and understanding throughout the course. I had a great time working with her."
"Bayan was an excellent TA. She led very engaging discussion sections, and her experience and studies mean she has a wealth of relevant knowledge to draw from for this class."
"African Independence: A Cup of Plenty or a Poisoned Chalice?" [Fall 2021]
“Bayan is a great teaching fellow, and I really hope I will have her again for a future course. She is very attentive and charismatic.”
"Bayan structured section meetings in such a way that we were highly encouraged to participate and engage with the material. In some other sections that I've taken, it's easy to just sit there for 45 minutes and space out, but Bayan (through small group activities, engaging discussion questions, etc.) prevented that from happening! She was also very available for office hours and helpful in writing my paper and answering any questions I had about the course material. Weaknesses: Basically none. I was so surprised at the end of the semester when she said that this was her first section ever, since she had led it so well! Bayan is absolutely AMAZING and truly inspired me to work hard in this course and bring my best to section every week in order to be prepared for her teaching. I feel so lucky to have had such a fantastic TF."
"Bayan did a great job of curating the discussion in my section, and I really enjoyed coming every week. In particular, I appreciated when she pushed back against excessively judging historical figures and said our job was to understand their situation and incentives. She was also prompt at grading. Overall, she was enthusiastic and kind to students!"
"Bayan was an amazing TF -- I was so shocked to hear that it was her first time teaching because she is so natural and well-prepared in the classroom. Rather than just have random discussions about the reading like I do in other classes, Bayan usually prepared some probing questions or small-group activities so that everyone actually got involved in section and had something to say. Some of our sections were dedicated to certain themes (gatekeeper state or corrective regimes) and we actually got to go through concepts as a group and create study guides or timelines. Then, we'd leave class with tangible plans for how to write papers or study a concept for the final. It was one of my favorite sections ever and I will miss it!"
"Bayan is a great Teaching Fellow. She was really attentive during sections, and her comments helped our group engage with the class material in a profound way. Her feedback on my assignments helped me to improve myself both as a writer and a historian. In my opinion she doesn't have any weaknesses and as a senior I can say that she is one of the best TA's I had the chance to work with."
"Bayan was excellent. Easily one of the best TFs I've had at Yale. Where to begin?! She actually planned out section so that conversation was structured and useful to students. She went out of her way to provide resources that would be helpful to students in completing assignments. She held office hours and was always willing to work with you on papers. She also brought a wealth of lived experience and knowledge about Sudan as well as other parts of Africa. Overall, she made the course for me!"
